1000 for $10 - part IV

It has certainly been a while since my last post. I've been occupied with moving out of my studio space *sob* in favour of saving some money for travel in the near future. I now find myself with a house full of art and a woefully inadequate space to tackle the giant 6x6' canvas that is currently sitting in my dining room. On the plus side, I CAN tackle smaller projects in my bedroom turned studio. A couple 4x5' pieces are on the go AND I've cranked out a bunch of fun, smaller scale pieces for this year's 1000 for 10 show, hosted by Creatures Creating (822 Dundas St. W, Toronto) - http://www.creaturescreating.com
I'll be posting some shots of the show/my work in the near future. If anyone is in the area, tonight is the opening reception, featuring over 50 talented artists and 1000 pieces of affordable art. Bring a fat stack of 10s and support us in our quest to bring art to a wider audience.

Abstract Implications 3 and other developments

Abstract Implications 3 is right around the corner! The work will be on display to the public at Gallery 1313 (1313 Queen St. W. Toronto) as of this coming Thursday, July 25. The reception for the show will be the following Thursday, August 1 from 7pm-10pm.
The Project Gallery portion of the show will be on display from August 10-15, with an opening reception the evening of Saturday, August 10 from 7pm-12am (or thereabouts ;)
I'm excited to have the chance to work with over 25 other talented artists and offer the public a little taste of the abstract(ed).
In other news, the work at C'est What? (67 Front St. E. Toronto @ Church) has been taken down...and replaced with brand spanking new work! The pieces will be on display there until August 5, at which point I will be hanging some of those new pieces plus some NEW new pieces at Insomnia Cafe (563 Bloor St. W. @ Bathurst) for the remainder of August.

Updates!

Currently have work up at Gallery 1313 with some other talented folks in this summer's G1313 emerging artist exhibit. g1313.org - art's up until July 7th!
In other art hanging related news, I'll be swapping the work currently hanging at C'est What? (http://www.cestwhat.ca/) for new pieces later next week. Those will be up until August.
Aaaaaand, when the end of the month rolls around:
More details to come re: the opening nights for the two shows. We've got quite a few artists on board already to take part in these two uniquely curated shows. This is shaping up to be a lot of fun!
And to top it all off, I'll have more work up at Insomnia (http://insomniacafe.com/) at the beginning of August.
Phew. It's going to be a busy summer!

Stay tuned for uploads of new work and possible restructuring of the website.

Project Gallery Toronto - 1109 Queen St. East

Friends and studiomates, Lex and Cal, have started up a gallery/collective space in the Queen East neighbourhood. Last night was their inaugural exhibition, Spring Fling. The work is up until next Wednesday if anyone who is reading this happens to be in the area. Viewers will be treated to a fun and eclectic mix of energetic art by local emerging artists. It's also looking mighty slick in the space since renovations were completed.
Next Thursday, May 30 is the opening of their 2nd group show, Fatal Abstractions. (7pm-11pm) I'll be showing a few pieces for that one along with a number of other talented artists working in various modes of abstraction. Should be a fun night!

Congratulations Eric!

Tonight I had the honour of attending the 100 Prints show tonight at the Palais Royale (http://www.openstudio.on.ca/100prints.html) in place of my esteemed colleague, Eric Euler (www.ericeuler.com). He's down south getting his MFA on at Louisiana State University in Red Stick* and could not be in attendance. Open Studio put together a great event with a wonderful diversity of art on display. Even got to see a Kenojuak print! Congratulations to the shortlisted artists and prize winners of the event, including a 3rd place finish for Eric! Here's to one of the hardest working, most positive guys I've had the pleasure of working with. Way to "slay forth", Eric! http://ericeuler.com/artwork/2836710_Crowns.html

Art up at C'est What? (that's not a question, it's the name of the venue)

A little last minute hanging of some art never hurt anyone. I contacted Brenda, in charge of art bookings at C'est What? Brew/Vin Pub Restaurant, earlier last week about hanging some art up in their fine establishment once again. As it turns out, she had a cancellation from one of the artists who was supposed to be hanging work in there this month. I was more than happy to throw a few pieces up in there to fill the space. http://www.cestwhat.ca/ - C'est What?; good food, good brews, great atmosphere...and art too! They've even got a couple pool tables. What more could one ask for? 67 Front Street, at Church. Check it out!

Freshly documented work!

Images of some recent work have been added to the 'Abstract' section of the site. In other news, I will have some new work up on display at Insomnia Cafe (http://insomniacafe.com/ - @ Bloor & Bathurst, Toronto) at the beginning of July. A classy establishment in one of my favourite areas of town. More details to come. And more work to come for Abstract Implications 3, later this summer!

Abstract Implications 3 - call for submissions!

In addition to Band Tease 2, planning is currently underway for the third iteration of Abstract Implications; a celebration of abstract art in all its myriad forms. At the moment I am working with past AA collaborators to lock down a venue for the show, which will run for 2 weeks toward the end of July or early August, 2013. Stay tuned for more details!

Band Tease 2: Band T-shirts for Bands that don't Exist!

Friday May 10, 2013 at The 460 (460 Spadina, Toronto), the follow-up to last year's Band Tease will be going down. Participation in this show is open to all who wish to get their hands dirty and silk screen (or whatever other method you prefer) up some fun fake band T's! Last year's show was the result of all those times the phrase, "that'd make a great band name", came up in conversation and us finally deciding to put our ink  where our mouths are. This year is shaping up to be even better than last! Participation has at least doubled from last year's show, and we are pleased to host the work of some international artists from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where the illustrious Eric Euler (past collaborator/partner in crime and currently working on his MFA in printmaking down South) has taken on the task of coordinating shipment of t-shirts up to the grim, frozen North. He is also organizing a Southern edition of Band Tease, slated for some time in the fall. More details on that one to follow + more details to come for the Toronto event. In the meantime, here's the official call for submissions for Band Tease 2:

First Solo Show!

I am pleased to announce that my work will soon be on display at Brockton Collective ( 422 Dufferin St, Toronto) from Thursday March 21st until Monday March 25 in what will be my first solo show (that's not in a cafe/restaurant). On display will be a selection of never before exhibited paintings as well as some older pieces. A huge shout out to Bruno Sousa and all the hard work him and the rest of the organizational staff at Brockton have done to support emerging artists in the city.
Into Abstraction will be the 4th show in a series of emerging artist exhibitions put on at Brockton Collective for 2013.

Details on the upcoming show, past shows and the space in general can be found through the above link.

Opening reception will be starting at 7pm, Thursday March 21. Make sure to add the event to your art crawl plans for the evening and stop on by for a drink!

2013 Updates

It's been a while since the last post. Updated the Abstract section with a few new works. Been mostly occupied with work and when not working, spending time in the studio. Lots of projects on the go, expect some images of new work/better images of old work + new website in the near future. In the meantime www.BradfordWilson.com has been forwarded to my blog. Since the last post I've also been involved in a few shows at local artist run centres (Gallery 1313, Creatures Collective, Brockton Collective) as well as the recently opened Manta Contemporary in Hamilton (www.mantacontemporary.com). Links to the other mentioned artist centres have been added to the links section on the blog. Also in the works is having the studio space I'm involved in added to the itinerary for the Riverdale Art Walk (http://artistsnetwork.ca/) as well as planning for this year's edition of the Abstract Implications show. Details to come. And if you haven't been, I'd highly recommend checking out Hamilton's monthly art crawl (http://www.jamesstreetnorth.ca/blog/). There's also a great Peruvian chicken place 2 doors down from Manta (http://culantro.ca/about-us/). Enjoy some visual art and then a dash of the culinary arts. Cheers!
